Gilroy Museum
A visit to the Gilroy Museum is a great way to step back in time, when you visit downtown Gilroy in the Santa Clara Valley.
The museum is housed in the 1910 Carnegie Library building, which is a perfect setting for historic artifacts. When the library was open at that location, the museum was in the basement. When the library moved in the 1970’s, the museum was able to spread out and make use of the main floor.
Volunteers have done a fantastic job with the over 25,000 artifacts that have been donated to the museum. Visitors get a feel for what life was like in Gilroy and for the individuals who had a lasting impact on the area.
These days Gilroy is known for garlic, wineries and an outlet mall, but in the past people came for tobacco and the hot springs.
