Visiting Pirate Park in Avila Beach

SLO Pirate Avila Park

Quick Summary: Visiting Avila Beach with kids? Stop by Avila Park (affectionately known as Pirate Park) at 50 San Juan Street. Located in downtown Avila Beach near the pier and Central Coast Aquarium, this free pirate-themed park features imaginative play structures, expansive grassy lawns, picnic tables, and clean restrooms.

When exploring downtown Avila Beach along California’s Central Coast, finding a fun, open space where kids can burn off some extra energy is a huge plus.

On my recent visit, I spent time checking out Avila Park (aka Pirate Park).

Located at 50 San Juan St, it sits just steps away from the beach, the iconic Avila Pier, and the Central Coast Aquarium.

🏴‍☠️ Pirate-Themed Playground & Family Amenities

The standout feature of this park is its imaginative pirate-themed play equipment.

The play structures are super cute, engaging, and designed to entertain both toddlers and older children.

Kids can pretend to sail the high seas, climb aboard, and let their imaginations run wild!

Surrounding the play structures are large grassy areas that offer plenty of space for a picnic or for running around.

The park also provides:

  • Picnic Tables: There are some shaded and open tables perfect for an outdoor lunch or snack break.
  • Clean Restrooms: Public restroom facilities located conveniently right on-site.
  • Prime Walkability: Easy walking access to nearby downtown shops, ice cream stands, and oceanfront dining spots.

🚗 Parking & Visiting Tips

The park offers free street parking right alongside the park.

I visited the area multiple times midweek during my trip and easily found open parking spots directly adjacent to the park every single time.

Keep in mind that parking will be much tighter during busy summer weekends or local community event dates, so it won’t be this easy during peak times!
